Corrections policy.
Speed increases the need for clean corrections. When a material fact is wrong, incomplete or becomes misleading in light of new evidence, Signal Hockey should update it quickly.
Material factual errors
An error involving a player, team, transaction, injury, amount, date, attributed quotation or confirmation status should be corrected once established.
Normal updates
Breaking news often evolves. Adding official confirmation, contract detail or a new source is not necessarily a correction: the story may simply be enriched and display an updated time.
Changes that alter meaning
If a change materially alters what a reader would have understood from the previous version, it should be treated as an editorial correction rather than a silent cosmetic edit.
Rumours that become official
When previously attributed or uncertain information is later officially confirmed, the story status may be updated. The initial reporting should not be rewritten as though official confirmation had always existed.
